Residential Garbage Rates

Your monthly rate pays for the collection of a set volume of garbage, unlimited* recycling and unlimited* yard trimmings set out according to Solid Waste Services guidelines. Your rate depends upon the size of garbage cart you choose.

*The garbage, recycling and yard trimmings must be generated by your household. No business waste except from a home office. Prices and fees do not include tax. For commercial rates, see our Commercial section.

Extra Garbage

Your monthly rate does not cover the collection of garbage that does not fit easily in your cart when the lid is closed. Place a $4 Extra Garbage Sticker on all extra bags of garbage. You will be charged $8 on your next utility bill for the collection of each extra bag that does not have a sticker on it.

Anti-Litter Fee

Solid Waste Services charges all residential electric utility accounts in the City of Austin a $5.00 anti-litter fee. This fee pays for a number of services, including street sweeping, dead animal collection, the Household Hazardous Waste Facility, and enforcement of certain City codes.

New Service Fee

New customers are charged a $15 fee to cover the costs of setting up their accounts. This fee is assessed upon connection of utilities.

Cart Upgrade Fee

There is a one-time $15 fee to upgrade your cart or add an additional cart. This fee is waived if the exchange takes place within 60 days of beginning service. There is no fee to change to a smaller cart.
